Lyon – Benfica 5-0
See Hegerberg’s first opportunity at the top!
Last week, Ada Hegerback made a comeback against Häcken after a 21-month injury nightmare. On Thursday night, she got new minutes against Benfica in the Champions League in her first home game after the recovery.
Lyon led 5-0 when Ada Hegerberg was substituted midway through the second half.
Barely ten minutes later, Hegerberg was very close to increasing the lead to 6-0, but the super striker’s attempt was stopped by the toe of Benfica goalkeeper Letícia.
In overtime, Hegerberg increased from 25 meters. The ball was in good shape, but once again she was stopped by Letícia, who got her fingertips and hit a corner kick.
The French big club won 5-0 after two goals by Kadeisha Buchanan and one goal each by Daniëlle Van De Donk, Melvine Malard and Catarina Macario.
Barcelona struggled to win
Reigning Champions League champions Barcelona started with both Caroline Graham Hansen and Ingrid Syrstad Engen in a hard-fought victory away against Køge. Fridolina Rolfö scored the lead goal, before Jennifer Hermoso fixed the result to 2-0 on penalties in overtime. Graham Hansen was named the course’s best.
– The first half was difficult. We did not play as we usually did and had agreed to do. We made it a little difficult for ourselves. In the second half, the movements were better, and we did the simple things better. Then also came the goal chances. I must pay tribute to Køge, who fought and made it difficult for us, says Caroline Graham Hansen in an interview with European Football Association (UEFA).
Frida Maanum played the entire match for Arsenal in the 4-0 victory over Hoffenheim.
