Several injured in knife attack in Paris

Parisian authorities have already confirmed that this Friday morning, four people were wounded with bladed weapons in Paris, next to the building of the former newsroom of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. According to BFMTV, a suspicious package was also found and authorities are asking people to avoid the area.

Two of the wounded are in a state of “absolute emergency” and the two suspected perpetrators of the attack are “on the run,” the city added.

So far, the circumstances of the incident are unknown. According to the French press, two suspects have fled but have since been detained. The first man was arrested near Bastille Square and a second suspect was reportedly arrested shortly after.

According to a judicial source cited by the French press, this second suspect was detained in the Paris metro.

The information is known after the police announced the arrest of a first suspect in Bastille Square.

The news agency Premières Lignes, which operates in the building, confirmed to Radio France 2 that two of its workers, “a man and a woman”, were injured in the attack, which took place on the street.

A police official said an “active search” of the suspects was underway and that a police cordon was set up in the area, including the old newsroom building, after a suspicious package was found.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex has also confirmed the attack and announced that he was going to meet immediately with the Interior Minister to monitor the situation.

There is also information that “thousands of students have been confined” as a precaution and that schools, daycare centers and homes for the elderly in the area have been closed.

It is recalled that the former newsroom of the newspaper, on the east side of Paris, was the scene, on January 7, 2015, of a `jihadist ‘attack that left 12 dead and five seriously injured. The trial of alleged accomplices in this and other ‘jihadist’ attacks in Paris has been underway since the beginning of September in the French capital.

Charlie Hebdo moved its facilities after the 2015 attack.
