Several hundred people protested mostly peacefully against the Corona measures in downtown Parchim on Saturday.
According to the police, at times more than 450 people demonstrated in Parchim on Saturday against the corona policy of the federal and state governments. As part of the nationwide campaign, Parchim was selected as the central event location for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Organizer Holger Lehmann originally registered 1000 participants. However, due to the high corona incidence in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, the district administration only wanted to allow four events with 50 people each. Eight rallies in Parchim at different times and locations were then approved.
Starting point and destination at the fairground
At the Parchim fairground, the situation threatened to escalate briefly at the beginning of the protest march because some demonstrators wanted to take a different route than that agreed with the authorities. But then the march started moving towards the city center. Despite numerous loudspeaker announcements, many demonstrators refused to wear a mouth and nose cover, so that the police documented numerous violations. After a few bottles were thrown at the police, three men were arrested. A police officer suffered minor injuries. At around 8:30 p.m., the rally ended peacefully without any further incident.
Nine motorcades in the district
In addition, other organizers had registered for Lübz, Ludwigslust, Grabow, Plau am See, Neustadt-Glewe, Crivitz, Goldberg and Parchim at the same time in the afternoon. According to the police, 100 vehicles took part. There were no incidents, said a police spokesman.
