A number of buildings in West Pasaman, West Sumatra, were reported to have suffered minor to severe damage due to earthquake with a Magnitude of 6.2, Friday (25/2) morning.
Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the West Pasaman Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Afrizal said his party could not confirm how many buildings were damaged in total, but the BPBD had received reports of building damage.
“There is no exact data on how many were damaged, we are waiting for information from the sub-district,” he said, Friday (25/2).
Afrizal said the level of damage to buildings due to the earthquake ranged from moderate to severe. Then regarding the death toll, West Pasaman BPBD has not yet received any reports.
“There are 25 percent damaged buildings, and there are heavy ones too. However, we cannot provide data on the amount,” he explained.
He also said that the earthquake also resulted in a number of patients at the West Pasaman Hospital having to evacuate to emergency tents.
“Tents were set up at the hospital to anticipate aftershocks, because the patient inpatient building is a two-story building,” he explained.
However, Afrizal confirmed that there was no damage at the West Pasaman Hospital. Emergency tents were made to anticipate further events due to the earthquake.
In addition to the RSUD, Afrizal said that damage also occurred at the West Pasaman Regent’s Office. The damage occurred in the regent’s office hall, the ceiling of the room collapsed and debris scattered on the floor.
Previously, an earthquake measuring 6.2 shook West Pasaman Regency at 8.39 WIB. Earthquake shocks were felt in several areas in West Sumatra and triggered panic among residents.
According to information from the BMKG Padang Panjang Geophysics Station, the earthquake was centered at 17 kilometers northeast of West Pasaman, 20 kilometers northwest of West Pasaman, 51 kilometers from Agam, and 141 kilometers west of Padang.
