Several homes were hit by explosions throughout Corsica on Saturday evening, with no criminal origin being favored at this stage for all the charges, AFP learned from the prosecutors of Ajaccio and Bastia.
Two houses in Olmeto
A first explosion hit a house located in Olmeto plage (Corse-du-Sud) at around 6.10pm, the Ajaccio prosecution said. The ensuing fire was quickly brought under control by firefighters and little damage was reported. The Ajaccio public prosecutor’s office said it was uncertain about the origin of this first disaster, which could be accidental.
Half an hour later, another house located in the same locality of Olmeto, but this time in the locality of “les Cannes”, was also hit by an explosion followed by a fire. But this time an inscription “FLNC” (Corsican National Liberation Front) was found on the facade of the house.
The deminers were sent to the two disasters, which occurred while the houses, which are allegedly owned by the Continentals, were empty, according to the Ajaccio prosecutor’s office.
An investigation into destruction by means dangerous to people has been opened and entrusted to the research brigade of the gendarmerie of Sartène (Corse-du-Sud), in co-reference with the research section.
Another house in Santa-Maria-di-Lota
In Haute-Corse, around 11pm, a third unoccupied home was also the target of an explosion, in Santa-Maria-di-Lota, said the prosecution of Bastia.
An investigation into destruction by means dangerous to people was also opened and entrusted to the research section.
In July, the independence movement Front de liberation nationale Corse (FLNC) claimed responsibility for 16 attacks on two police vehicles, two construction companies and twelve private residences across the island, including the burning of 36 mobile homes in a Aleria campsite (Upper Corsica).
The National Counterterrorism Attorney’s Office has resumed the investigation related to this FLNC news release.
