Several fires cause the eviction of a few thousand people on Tenerife in the Radio Club Tenerife

Several fires in urban areas of six municipalities in the north of Tenerife have led to the eviction of a few thousand people and the closure of the highway north of the island.

The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pedro Martin, has been informed that the fires of most concern are those of Puerto de la Cruz and Santa Ursula -where has removed a hotel-due to its proximity to living areas.

Martin has stressed that as they extinguished a fire, there was a new focus in another municipality in a situation that, he said, this is the first time that happens on the island. There have been several foci in different areas and scattered, has said Martin.

Faced with this unusual situation, Martin has stated that he has requested the activation of the Unit Military Emergency (UME) and raises the change to grade 2, which would imply that the situation is handled by the Government, but only if you are guaranteed to get resources to the island given that the airports Tenerife south and Tenerife north are closed.

The six municipalities affected by the bouts of global fire and fire are: Los Realejos, La Orotava, La Guancha, Santa Ursula, San Juan de la Rambla and the Port of the Cross.

These problems are compounded, in addition, the cuts of roads. At this time, remains cut off the TF-5 between la Victoria, and The Branch line of La Orotava, and there is a stretch closed between Los Realejos and Icod.

The president has explained that for “security” they need to have those areas as “desahogadas possible” and has ensured that the Civil Guard is already working on the transfer and the exit of vehicles so that they can return to their homes.

Martin has been argued that the two fires of Los Realejos are stabilizedlike the fire of The Guancha and San Juan de La Rambla, which also have staff in the area to avoid that they can be reactivated.

In The case of la Orotava, the “biggest concern” was that the fire in the Ravine of Tafuriaste be extended to the Polígono Industrial San Jerónimo, but “fortunately it seems that the fire starts to hold back”, said the president of the island.

Despite the good news, Martin has preferred to keep the “caution”, because the weather situation “it makes unpredictable the evolution of any of these points”, has pointed out.

In this sense, Santa Ursula continues to be one the “most worrying”, as they have come to exist until five foci simultaneous that have affected several homes and that has forced, even, to evacuate the hotel La Quinta.

The affected people, two groups of 400 people, have been referred to the municipal swimming pool and the pavilion hall of The Victory. It has also enabled the flag Cho Pastor, next to the CEIP San Fernando, to embrace another group of 150 people.

Peter Martin has also reported that they have mobilized all possible resources: fire consortium de Tenerife and volunteer firefighters (even the ones that were part of the safety device of the Carnival of Santa Cruz), civil protection and even the EMU and the brigades forest.

As of this afternoon night it is expected to reduce the intensity of the wind, “and could be” that one in the morning and the wind has sent almost entirely, has declared Martin, which would change the scenario completely, “because the biggest problem we’ve found is the wind,” he concluded.
