MADRID, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Several families of Israeli hostages held by Palestinian militias since October 7 have announced that they will join the protests that have been demanding the resignation of the country’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanayhu, for months.

One of the spokespersons for these families, Eli Albag, whose daughter Liri is in the hands of Hamas, announced last night that he will stop participating in the rallies in Tel Aviv’s Hostage Square to join the street mobilizations against the Prime Minister.

«This is the last Shabbat that we stay here. From now on we will be on the streets. “It is time to turn off the lights,” declared Albag during the rally in the square, reported by the ‘Times of Israel’, on a Saturday night that coincided with the largest mobilization seen in Tel Aviv for the return of the hostages from the beginning of the war with Hamas.

Tens of thousands of people then marched through the streets of the main Israeli cities during a series of rallies that resulted in at least 16 arrests in Tel Aviv. The Police also ended up intervening forcefully to disperse 200 protesters who jumped the cordon surrounding the area around Netanyahu’s private residence in the coastal town of Caesarea.

The relative’s words were immediately supported by the spokesperson for the Forum of the Families of Hostages and Missing Persons, Haim Rubinstein. «The marches are over. The protests have just begun », he wrote on the social network X.

Their immediate plan consists of the beginning, this Sunday, of a march to the Parliament of Israel, the Knesset. There, if the security forces allow it, they intend to begin a four-day camp to simultaneously demand an agreement for the release of the hostages and the holding of new elections in the country.

For this Sunday’s rally, the presence of the Israeli opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yair Lapid, and relatives of victims of the massacre committed by the Palestinian militias on October 7 in the Kfar Aza kibbutz, such as Shirel Hogel, are expected. Sigalit Hillel, whose son, Uri Tchernihovski, was killed at the rave attacked by militants that day, will also speak.
