The number of assaults has increased sharply in Grenoble, Bordeaux and Lyon, cities run by environmental mayors. The oppositions have denounced a form of inaction in the face of security issues.
In Grenoble (Isère), this Thursday, July 21, a shopkeeper said she had been attacked after seeing her store looted by a gang of individuals. Attacks that have become too frequent for the opposition, which denounced the inaction of the ecologist mayor Eric Piolle.
“Grenoble has become the first city in France for violent attacks and robberies per 1000 inhabitants. When Eric Piolle arrived at the head of the city in 2014, he declared that he no longer wanted a camera. He refused to arm the municipal police, we have an evolution of the city which is extremely difficult”, declared at the microphone of CNEWS, Alain Carignon, the president of the opposition group to the Municipal Council of Grenoble.
The day before, in Lyon, three plainclothes police officers were violently attacked by around fifty individuals. The laxity of environmentalists at the head of the city has also been denounced. “The city swung into delinquency and ultra-violence from the moment when the mayor of Lyon no longer considered that security problems were fundamental problems. When you fight with the Kalashnikov, you realize that you have taken many steps”, according to the former Minister of the Interior, Gérard Collomb.
The observation is the same in Bordeaux where the opposition has pointed to a 20% increase in the number of physical attacks in the city. “This subject of security, it does not interest them. They do not want to seize it and it is a real problem, because the people of Bordeaux live in a city where insecurity is growing, ”testified Nicolas Pereira, municipal councilor of Bordeaux. According to the Ministry of the Interior, this type of violence is on the increase. In his report for the year 2021, he reported an increase in attacks of 12% against 1% in 2020.
