Cubans took to social networks to report that a group of children ended up intoxicated during a birthday party held on the night of Sunday, March 3, in the Florencia municipality, in the province of Ciego de Ávila.
A publication shared by Internet user Pablo Antonio Rojas-González indicates that the minors had to be hospitalized after the incident.
“Attention Cuban people, let us pray for the health of intoxicated children. Note, a birthday turns into a tragedy, an event that occurred in Florencia, Ciego de Ávila,” the brief publication reads.
The post was accompanied by a video in which several people can be seen gathered on a corner, watching multiple ambulances on the street.
The publication was received with skepticism by some users, however, there were people in the comments section who confirmed what happened that night.
“I am almost everyone’s uncle,” said Internet user Elso Poll, pointing out that the problem would have been the cake that was bought for the party.
For his part, the activist and content creator, Edmundo Dantés Jr., specified that there were eight affected children.
“Many claim that it was the cake, but it is too early to know if it was the exact cause of the poisoning. They also ate jams and lollipops,” the activist explained in his Facebook post.
Pablo Antonio Rojas-González updated the situation this Monday, pointing out that the minors, who were admitted to the Morón hospital, were improving little by little, and that it was very likely that they would be discharged very soon.
“I let the entire population know that the children affected by poisoning are gradually improving, thank God, everything is going well for everyone. A cordial hug from New York, blessings, people.”
“Information, except for one girl, all the other children will be discharged. The tests came out fine, thank God,” she added in another update shortly after.
Until now, the official press has not commented on the matter, something common when it comes to cases that “stain” the image of the Revolution.
