Are we moving towards the cancellation of the traditional Pentecostal Férias in the arenas of the Occitanie region? In the Gard in any case, Caissargues has just thrown the muleta to the ground. Same thing for Nîmes even if some activities are planned
–
It was first of all the City of Caissargues (Gard) which announced on Tuesday April 13 the cancellation of its Pentecost Fair, initially scheduled for May 21 to 24. The event was organized with the local bullfighting club Lou Saquetoun.
Obviously involved, the current Covid-19 pandemic, the need to provide health precautions for the participants, the risk of seeing the various bullfights and races take place behind closed doors without an audience … and therefore also of depriving themselves non-negligible revenue. All of this is subject to a hypothetical event authorization by the Prefecture.
Meet at least in Nîmes
Nîmes, for its part, cancels its traditional Feria even if the city nevertheless plans to maintain some activities and 2 bullfighting shows on May 22 and 23. It must be said that since Tuesday the cancellation was strongly considered. Mayor Jean-Paul Fournier (LR) declared himself pessimistic at the microphone of our colleagues from France Bleu Gard-Lozère on Tuesday when the director of the Tour de France cyclist Christian Prudhomme came:
I am a little afraid that we are too close at the end of May. We will not be completely out of health restrictions. Frankly, I don’t believe it very much. Something else will be suggested, of course, but the Pentecostal Feria will not take place, in my opinion.
Already canceled in 2020
Already last year, the 2020 edition of this Nîmes Pentecost Fair had to be canceled, forcedly despite the release from confinement in early May. The risks of recovery and proliferation of the coronavirus remained worrying, and the conditions for complying with health precautions were insufficient in the eyes of the authorities. The event had been replaced in a way by a version 2.0 feria, with broadcasts of major bullfights spent in these arenas of Nîmes and virtual bodegas on social networks.
