New alert on the Ministry of Health website: some batches of two large confectionery and bakery products have been withdrawn from the market
New alert from the Ministry of Health for some batches of pretzels and croissants that contain sesame seeds contaminated with ethylene oxide and from India, involving the companies San Carlo Gruppo Alimentare spa and San Giorgio SpA
Here are the numerous products recalled by the Ministry:
- SALATINI MIX 400g SAN CARLO, in boxes of 400 gr with the lot number S 0405 2 – S 0405 30, with minimum durability date (Tmc) 02-07-2021 produced by Lajkonik Snacks Sp.o in Poland.
- HANDSET 5 CEREALS EMPTY 70 g San Giorgio SpA, in boxes of 3500g with 50 pieces of 70 g, with lot numbers L20162-20177-20198, with Tmc 12-05-2021, produced by San Giorgio SpA with headquarters in Via Giliberto Petti, 10 / II Castel San Giorgio (SA).
- CORNETTO 5 CEREALS WITH HONEY 70 g San Giorgio SpA, in boxes of 7000g with 100 pieces of 70 g, with lot numbers L20202, with Tmc 16-01-2021, produced by San Giorgio SpA with headquarters in Via Giliberto Petti, 10 / II Castel San Giorgio (SA).

The alert from the Ministry of Health
As specified in the alert, issued by the Ministry of Health, to protect the food safety of Italian consumers:
“Consumers who have purchased the product with this lot and expiry date are invited not to consume it and to return it to the point of sale for reimbursement, even without the receipt.”.
L’ethylene oxide is a chemical compound of high production worldwide and used in various industrial sectors. The pesticide present does not come from the cultivation phase but is added in production, as the ethylene oxide is used in India as an additive to reduce the risk of salmonella formation in sesame seeds.
However, it is highly harmful to human health if used in higher quantities than the regulations in force 0.05 mg al chilo while the doses in the products indicated exceed the established quotas by a thousand doses.
