Several areas of North Texas to be fumigated by mosquitoes that tested positive for the Nile virus – Telemundo Dallas (39)

TEXAS – The Dallas County Department of Health and Human Services (DCHHS) confirmed that 5 new groups of mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile virus.

Similarly, the Denton County Department of Public Health (DCPH) indicated that they identified 4 new groups of mosquitoes with the virus in unincorporated areas in the following areas.

In the case of Dallas County, it was indicated that they were found in the following zip codes:

In the case of Denton County, officials indicated that the areas where the mosquitoes with viruses were found were as follows:

  • Sureste de Northlake cerca Northwest Regional Airport
  • Oak Point dentro de Cross Oak Ranch y Prairie Oaks
  • Northwest Frisco near Frisco Ranch and Frisco Lakes
  • North of 380 near North Paloma Creek

Denton County officials will spray on August 11, 12, and 13, 2021, near the aforementioned areas, on the following days, weather permitting:

  • Wednesday, August 11, 2021 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
  • Thursday, August 12, 2021 between 9 pm and 5 am
  • Friday, August 13, 2021 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

The county recorded the first West Nile Virus case in July 2021 and indicated that the person resides in zip code 75231. The first death was registered on August 9, 2021 in Dallas.

To minimize the risk of contracting the Nile virus, officials issued the following recommendations:

  • Eliminate standing water in the yard and your community to prevent mosquitoes from duplicating. This includes flower pots, birdbaths, etc.
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants when you’re outside.
  • Use repellent and if possible ask to put it on clothing.
  • If you buy repellent, make sure they are EPA approved and check that they have the following ingredients in English: DEET, Picaridin, or Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some people have a feverish illness. About 1 in 5 people who are infected will develop a fever along with other symptoms such as headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or a rash. Most people with this type of illness make a full recovery, however fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months.
