Harburg. A fire in the attic of an apartment block on Straight Street called the fire brigade on Monday evening at around 6.35pm. Rescuers had to use a revolving ladder to fight the meter-high flames. Other rescuers made their way through the stairwell to the attic. Residents fled to the street before firefighters arrived. The house next door was also evacuated. The apartments below the fire apartments are no longer habitable. The cause of the fire is unclear, according to firefighters. The resident of the perimeter apartment suspects a toppled candle is the cause.
