seventy vandalized graves at the cemetery

Significant damage was reported this Tuesday, at the end of the afternoon, at the new Fameck cemetery, rue des Hêtres. Nearly seventy graves have been vandalized: crosses turned over, plaques broken, flowerpots thrown to the ground, etc.

Warned by residents, the municipal police first noticed the damage before the intervention of the gendarmes of the Thionville company. Criminal investigation technicians were mobilized to take fingerprints.

The investigation is ongoing. Neither registration nor tag were reported, but the extent of the damage shocked municipal officials.

Fameck cemetery had never been the subject of acts of this type until then. A complaint will be filed by the City. The municipality must contact, as of this Wednesday morning, all the families concerned. For the purposes of the investigation, the cemetery will remain closed on November 24.
