SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) will begin on September 14 the seventh edition of the National Women’s Basketball League (LNBF) tournament, chaired by the immortal sports professor Fernando Teruel, in the race for the Máximo Bernard Cup.
The information was released during the first working meeting held on Tuesday in the Fedombal meeting room, headed by Junior Páez, vice president of the federation, an institution headed by engineer Rafael Uribe.
The teams that will be participating in the competition are Indies of the South, Queens of the East, Olympics of La Vega, Hidalgas of Santiago, Club Calero, Las Murallas de San Lázaro and Los Mina.
“This year the teams are well strengthened, so I invite basketball fans to support the girls, since they need that support,” said Páez.
Páez also indicated that the League will serve as a prelude to the preparation of the players who will participate in the next FIBA Americas Women’s Centrobasket event.
The seventh season of the National Women’s Basketball League will be dedicated to Tony Tueni, for his outstanding career in Dominican basketball.
During the meeting, the draft was set for next Tuesday, September 3rd, with the players from Club Mauricio Báez and Águilas de Guachupita, clubs that are on recess for this season.
In addition to Junior Páez, the meeting was attended by José Esteban Borremé, from the Fedombal Board of Directors, Ramón Ceballos, technical director of Fedombal, Niurka Herrera, former glory of women’s basketball and the national team; and representatives of the different teams that will participate in the competition.
