Seven-year-old girl is detected with breast cancer; is a unique case| Newscast Mexico

Breast cancer is a disease that is generally diagnosed in people over 20 years of age, however, in Chile a seven-year-old girl has been detected with this type of cancerwhich has been designated as a rare pathology in minors, according to the news portal 24 Hours.

The minor, named Maura, was taken to the doctor because her mother, Patricia Muñoz, noticed that the girl had a lump under her nipple. The doctor who treated Maura indicated that this was not normal, since the affectation could grow, while Francisco Barriga, a pediatric hematologist and oncologist, told the 24 Hours portal that Maura’s condition is rare in children or adolescents.

According to the specialist, the majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer are people between the ages of 50 and 60so a case in a minor “is completely anecdotal.”

As part of the treatment, Maura had one of her breasts removed to prevent the tumor from spreading further, this of course generated sadness and pain for her mother. However, she added that found it strange that only the lump was removed and they did not follow up on the case to detect in time if the cancer had not spread.

“I don’t know if Maura, during the operation, could have metastasized elsewhere. That is what worries me too”, mentioned Patricia Muñoz for 24 Hours.

The family that lives in Quillota, Chile, has already contacted specialists from abroad, specifically from Spain, where they have provided an overview of what they could do to Maura, among these procedures are radiationas long as the minor’s cancer has not metastasized.

“I told her that I was going to fight for her,” added the mother, who will persist in solving her daughter’s health problem.
