The Consumers’ Association examined seventeen ready-made satay sauces. You only have to heat these sauces in the microwave and serve them afterwards. The sauces have been examined for nutritional value and also for the amount of peanuts, calories, sugar, fat and salt.
The best sauce
The ‘Verstegen ready-to-eat satay sauce low in sodium’ is the best test. There is only a little bit of salt in it, namely 0.2 grams of salt per 100 grams of sauce. In addition, it is also low in sugar, with 1.9 grams per 100 grams.
In the ‘Calvé Peanut Sauce Ready & Mild’, on the other hand, there are almost seven sugar cubes and in this sauce ‘with the full taste of real peanuts’, there is actually 20 percent peanuts. This means that the Calvé, together with the jumbo peanut sauce, scores lowest on the amount of peanuts.

Flower Brand’s satay sauce finished last in the Consumers’ Test, because it contains a lot of salt and sugar and is the only one that contains a lot of saturated fat.
Final verdict
In total, 10 sauces tested as too sweet and 4 as too salty.
The peanut sauces tested contain an average of 1.3 grams of salt per 100 grams. That is just as much as in the previous test by the Consumers’ Association in 2010. According to the association, the manufacturers have done ‘disappointingly little in the ten years to make their products less salty’.
