Mexico City. The Mexican government condemned Israel’s attacks against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Yesterday, on its social networks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) stressed that the Israeli attack “constitutes flagrant violations of international law and the resolutions of the UN Security Council.”
Likewise, the Foreign Ministry reported that this weekend seven Mexican citizens were able to leave Lebanon on humanitarian flights.
In reference to various attacks by the Israel Defense Forces that in recent days have occurred against the United Nations peace mission in southern Lebanon, which have left at least five blue helmetss injured, the agency headed by the Mexican Foreign Minister, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, supported the UN mandate in the protection of civilians.
He also reiterated the urgent call for an immediate ceasefire on the border between Lebanon and Israel and for strict respect by all parties of international law and international humanitarian law.
The UNIFIL mission operates along the Blue Line of separation between the two countries, mandated by the UN Security Council in March 1978.
Support for Mexicans
Meanwhile, regarding actions to support Mexican citizens who are in the conflict zone, the SRE indicated, through a statement, that this weekend seven were able to leave that Middle Eastern country.
Six compatriots took a flight from Lebanon to Istanbul, Türkiye on Saturday, for which they had the support of the Canadian government; while on Friday another Mexican person left Lebanese territory for Cyprus with the help of Australia. Mexico thanked both nations.
The SRE indicated that some of these people will travel to Mexico as their final destination, while others decided to remain in Europe.
For days, the Mexican embassy in Lebanon has identified compatriots who want to leave that area due to the conflict due to Israeli attacks and bombings.
The diplomatic representation maintains permanent communication with people who have decided to stay in the country and continues to identify all possible exit routes.
