Seven deaths under heavy rain in eastern Venezuela

Landslides and floods caused by heavy rains killed at least 7 people in the coastal state of Anzoátegui in eastern Venezuela, regional authorities announced Friday.

Six bodies were found in the city of Puerto La Cruz and another, that of a child, was found in the nearby city of Guanta, state governor Luis Marcano said.

Nearly 80 people have died in the country in recent weeks due to heavy rains that hit the country, including 54 in a landslide on October 8 in Las Tejerías, a town in the north-central state of Aragua, according to reports officers.

A thousand rescuers, volunteers and public employees were deployed in Anzoátegui.
