Seven people died in a helicopter crash in southern Italy. On board were two pilots, an Italian doctor and a family from the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the youngest victim is 13 years old.
The helicopter disappeared from radar in the late morning. The emergency services searched for the device in the vicinity of the city of Foggia. The army was also involved in the research. “Unfortunately there are no survivors,” said Raffaele Piemontese, vice president of the Puglia Region.
The helicopter had taken off from the Tremiti Islands. The helicopter company operates regular flights between this archipelago and mainland Italy. The crashed helicopter is of the type A109, built by the Italian company AgustaWestland.
Private companies often use the helicopter, but various armies also use it.
