Seven people have been killed and 14 missing in a Atlantic fishing ship on the Canadian coast, a Canadian military official said in Halifax on Tuesday.
Three members of the ship’s crew have been rescued, said Lieutenant Commander Brian Owens, a spokesman for the Joint Rescue Coordination Center, without ruling out the possibility that others will be found alive.
The weather off the coast of Newfoundland is very challenging, with low visibility and waves of up to four meters, he said.
The rescue operation involved an airplane, a helicopter and a coastguard.
Spokeswoman Isbela Rodriguez, the Spanish government’s spokeswoman for the press, warned many people had died in the accident.
The ship sank off the coast of Newfoundland on Monday.
This is what a real “emergency” looks like Canada!
