Seven Covid-19 cases will not be allowed to participate in the test tournament in Austria for the Latvian U-20 hockey team, reports the Latvian Hockey Federation (LHF).
According to the LHF Covid-19 protocols, the players of the Latvian national team and the Latvian U-20 national team were subjected to Covid-19 analyzes before the upcoming tournaments next week, in order to safely start working in the training camp on Monday.
The LHF reports that the analyzes of the players, coaches and service staff of the Latvian national team turned out to be negative and the Latvian national team will fully prepare for the Deutchland Cup on Monday.
In contrast, seven Latvian U-20 national team players tested positive, and these hockey players are currently in quarantine.
The LHF notes that contacts who are currently in self-isolation have also been identified. Relevant clubs and players’ parents are also aware of the situation. For safety and health reasons, to protect players, the Latvian U-20 national team will not start a training camp and will not go to next week’s St.Polten tournament in Austria.
In the St.Polten tournament, Latvians were scheduled to have matches with their peers from Austria and Hungary next week.
The Latvian hockey family has experienced several Covid-19 outbreaks this autumn. Due to Covid-19, the Continental Hockey League (KHL) team Riga “Dinamo” had to go twice in self-isolation, as well as positive cases were found in the Russian Youth Hockey League (MHL) unit “Riga”, as well as in Optibet Latvian Hockey League (OHL) clubs Daugavpils “Dinaburg” and “Zemgale” / LLU.
