Seven countries help France fight forest fires | Abroad

Highway between Bordeaux and Spain closed

BORDEAUX – Firefighters from seven countries help fight a major forest fire in southwestern France in the Gironde department, south of Bordeaux. President Emmanuel Macron thanks Germany, Poland, Greece, Romania and Austria for the help that has been offered. Sweden and Italy have already helped. At the request of France, the EU has now sent four fire-fighting aircraft from Greece and Sweden to the country through the European Civil Protection Mechanism (rescEU).
