The noughties produced a lot of nice cars. Now these are youngtimers, but there are certainly models that have the potential to become classics. We list seven contenders for classic status.
Stubborn design, and the last Alfa Romeo that was available with the great Busso V6. That is of course the version you want, but with a 1.8-liter Twinspark or 2.0 JTS you are also well served.
Mini
The first generation of the new Mini is proportionally much better than its successors. Go for a Cooper or Cooper S if you want a little spice on top of the standard driving pleasure.
Tough, sleek coupe with a big 3.5-liter V6 and a wonderful exhaust sound. Buy a beautiful, well-maintained example now and you can be sure that its value will not decrease.
A car in the Citroën CX-XM range, after all it is the successor to the latter. The large hatchback came in 2006 and you hardly saw them when they were new. The first copies have been youngtimers for two years now, but the C6 will become a classic in no time, just watch out.
BMW 1 series
The first 1-series have long since reached youngtimer age, the versions with a smooth six-cylinder (130i hatchback, 1-series Coupé as 125i and 135i) have also been around for a year and you should keep an eye on those in particular. Compact, with rear-wheel drive and loads of driving pleasure!
Many people’s guilty pleasure: an impressive bodywork on a solid Mercedes platform. And if you buy one, you will of course go for the V8.
Until the recent arrival of the MX30 EV with range extender, the RX-8 was the last Mazda with the famous rotary engine. They are not known for their enormous power and torque, but with such a unique body – including suicide doors – that is almost secondary! By the way, Mazda may be working on a sports car with a rotary engine again.
