Seven cases of the British coronavirus mutation have been discovered in the Vogtlandkreis. The district office in Plauen announced that the evidence was reported on the weekend and on Monday. Extended tests and measures to follow up the contacts of those affected were carried out. The virus type B.1.1.7 is considered to be more contagious than the variant previously widespread in Germany.
According to information from the “Free Press”, there are connections between the persons concerned and the district of Hof, where the British virus was also last detected. In one case, the place of work of the person concerned is in the neighboring Bavarian district, a spokesman for the district office is quoted as saying. “However, there is no connection between all seven infected people,” the newspaper continued to quote the spokesman.

The mutation was recently reported in Leipzig and in the Görlitz district. In the case of the two patients from Bad Muskau in Eastern Saxony, it is still unclear where they were infected. The district office in Görlitz announced on Monday that the index case had not yet been determined. Another family member of the man and woman is still waiting for the test result. All three have flu-like symptoms and are in quarantine.
