Seven candidates face off in first virtual debate in Baja California – Telemundo San Diego (20)

TIJUANA- In times of pandemic, mass political acts are restricted to prevent the spread of the virus, as part of the health protocol that has already been published by health authorities.

Therefore, debates such as the one organized this Sunday by the State Electoral Institute (IEE) are a good opportunity for the community to learn about the proposals of each of the contending candidates.

However, there were citizens who were not even aware that this Sunday the first of them would take place.

“Not until now am I finding out, miss,” Viviana García, a street vendor in Tijuana, told TELEMUNDO 20.

Different sectors will have to reduce capacity or suspend activities

García indicated that he will exercise his right to vote, but that he still did not know who aspired to the governorship in Baja California, and who were the protagonists in the first official political debate, this Sunday.

A similar case was that of Martín González, who indicated that it has a priority for the state.

“The insecurity, here they have already assaulted me three times,” said González.

In this season of campaigns, virtual debates will be an indispensable platform to reach a greater number of the population, because according to the yellow traffic light, public events are only allowed in open places with a maximum of 50 people in view of the growing number of COVID-19 cases and infections.

“Some people crowded many people out of excitement, maybe because the protocol was not published today, we already took it out, why? because there are many questions on social networks to say hey, it can’t be that they are not doing anything, well that’s it, “said Alonso Pérez Rico, Baja California’s health secretary.

For the researcher, Luis Carlos López, these platforms are useful for both candidates and voters.

“They have a space to expose what, but it is also saying what I want to do but also how I am going to do it,” said López.

This Sunday, the IEE will coordinate the first of 30 debates for all public positions on the day of June 6.

According to Abel Muñoz, from the Special Commission for Institutional Diffusion and IEE Debates: “It will not be a simple video call between the contestants but there will be dynamism thanks to an innovative format and the use of technology.”

In the absence of a healthy distance, the risk of contagion increases

The themes to be developed are economy, work, development and social security.

On the other hand, the figures do not lie, and Baja California lacks a civic culture that is reflected at the time of the polls, and that is that the entity registers an abstentionism of up to 70% of the total of the register.

So this first official debate will put the cards on the table of who is who in the race.

“They must see the debates in a very flexible and open way that all of them have to say, because in the end they all say something valuable at least and something that can be interesting that I miss the opportunity to know it for being with, let’s say, this one if you allow me the metaphor with the partisan band ”, added the political researcher.

Baja California will have elections on June 6

According to analysts, knowing all the proposals of each of the candidates for governor gives citizens the power to cast an informed vote.

This will be the first of three debates to be held by the IEE for Baja California, all of them in virtual mode.
