Seven people face multiple drug trafficking charges after a two-month police investigation at the Rosa Parks Senior Complex nursing home in Roosevelt, Long Island (NY).
Police executed a search warrant Friday at the complex. “We recovered pipes from crack and cocaine, some pills that were there and many drug packages including large scales, capsules and sachets, ”reported Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.
The seven people arrested face various drug possession and trafficking charges. The police added that all of the detainees had extensive criminal records.
Detectives detailed that drugs were sold from an apartment to local merchants who would resell them in a nearby park and to individuals.
Some residents commented that there was a constant flow of people coming and going from the apartment. “All the time, day and night, you heard people banging to get in,” said tenant Allen Zuckerman to News 12.
Police said that even while officers were in the apartment, several alleged clients knocked on the door to search for drugs. “What surprised me was that actually walked among uniformed policemen in the parking lot right out the door and they went into the apartment to buy more drugs, ”Commissioner Ryder said. “This happened three times until we left the door open so they could see that the police were inside.”
Complaints from Hempstead City residents prompted Nassau police to begin their investigation. “Older people live here. We need to do everything we can to make sure they can feel safe during their day, ”County Executive Laura Curran reported. CBS2.
