Seven accused after Maradona’s death

Maradona’s personal doctor Leopoldo Luque is among the accused, writes among others the Argentine newspaper La Nación and ESPN.

The seven defendants are not allowed to leave the country. The penalty for the accused is between 8 and 25 years in prison.

Maradona was only 60 years old. He died on November 25, just a few weeks after undergoing brain surgery. The operation was performed as a result of a blood clot.

Report

Three weeks ago, a panel of medical experts presented a 70-page document stating that Maradona received inadequate medical treatment before his death.

The panel of experts concluded that the Argentine “would have had a better chance of survival” if he had received adequate treatment at a health institution.

Maradona’s doctor has previously denied that he is responsible for the football icon’s death. He has also said that there was no basis for putting Maradona in hospital and that the former football star did not want this himself either.

The report also states that the treatment given had “deficiencies and irregularities” and that the patient was left to “fate”.

Legend

Maradona is heroically cultivated in his home country after, among other things, leading Argentina to World Cup triumph in 1986. He spent his club career in Barcelona and Naples, among other places.

Maradona has not only had it easy in the aftermath of his career. He struggled with obesity problems, mental health problems, alcohol and cocaine abuse, but fans never forgot him. He has received several honors and honorary titles.
