Settlement threatens passers-by with a 2,000-franc fine when entering

When entering, passers-by are threatened with a 2,000-franc fine: is this the most elite settlement in Switzerland?

A new block of flats with apartments, shops and an inner courtyard with a playground has been built in Zurich. But ordinary visitors are not welcome here.

Unfamiliar passers-by are not wanted here: the new building on Eggbühlstrasse in Zurich is threatened with hefty fines.

“We were completely taken aback, didn’t know what we had done wrong,” says Seraina Steiner* (*name changed by the editors). The woman from Zurich recently walked with her partner through the Oerlikon district and passed Eggbühlstrasse, where there are new houses. “We were once interested in an apartment in the development that was under construction at the time and now we wanted to see how it looks there today.” So the couple ran into the courtyard, inspected the playground – and that’s when it happened.
