News Group Newspapers, the tabloid’s publisher The Sunreached a settlement on Tuesday with, among others, Mel C. The Spice Girl and other well-known British people accused the publisher of hacking and tapping their phones.
According to British media, a settlement was reached on Tuesday for an undisclosed amount. BBC News states that the amount involved is “six zeros”.
Boyzone singer Shane Lynch and actors Keith Allen, Catherine Tate and Mathew Horne, among others, also settled with News Group Newspapers (NGN). The publisher is also said to have apologized.
British Prince Harry also has a case against the publisher. NGN has been illegally gathering information about him since the mid-1990s, he says. A judge has already rejected Harry’s claim about his phone being hacked.
Other allegations, such as the hiring of private investigators and other methods allegedly used to obtain information about him, will be discussed in court. The judge who must rule on the case believes that this claim is “realistic and defensible”.
