Sesc-Flamengo beat Fluminense, at the Clube Hebraica gymnasium, in Rio de Janeiro, this Friday, by 3 sets to 1, with splits of 29/27, 15/25, 22/25 and 20/25, for fifth round of the Superliga. Under boos from the tricolor fans, the red and black team ended up overcoming the hosts, distributing aces, with an impressive performance by Veronica Perry, aka Roni.

The game started evenly, but there were many service errors on the part of the hosts during the match. Even with Uzelac on the court, the player with the best performance so far in the league, the team showed difficulties in disrupting the visitors’ attack. With the result, Flamengo rose to third place in the table, while Fluminense moved to fourth place.

1st set: Flamengo holds the lead and Flu wins comeback

First tricolor point with Paracatu, followed by an attack error by Roni. Sabrina arrived showing her potential, and scored the first for Flamengo. Valquíria equalized at 3/3 with an unbeatable block and repeated the feat, taking the lead on the scoreboard. Rubro-Negro gained strength in the match and opened up a five-point lead. Uzelac broke Flamengo’s campaign, sending an unexpected ball into the middle of the court. Tricolor managed to get on the scoreboard, and Pri Heldes sent a ball that Juciely couldn’t handle. Fluminense equalized, but then Bernardinho’s team took the lead again, with a quick attack from Juciely who, this time, was quick to react. The hosts tied at 19/19 and then at 20/20. The dispute was fierce, but with some mistakes from Ariane, Flamengo tried to hold on, but the score was 23/23. Valquíria made the jump to set point, but the tricolor left everything the same again, at 24/24 and 25/25. Sabrina secured another set point, but Tricolor made an impressive comeback, and Uzelac closed at 29/27.

2nd set: Roni impresses, and Rubro-Negro takes the set with a distant advantage

Flamengo opened the set in the lead, and once again reached a six-point lead, with 12/6, after errors from the tricolor team and accurate attack points. Roni sent a ball into the middle of Fluminense’s court and opened another point. Pri Heldes compensated with a block and then the teams had the first rally of the match, which was sealed with a point from Sabrina, followed by two unbelievable aces from Roni. Ariane sent two blocking points to try to recover the difference on the scoreboard. Sabrina made another attack, in the middle of the opponent’s court. Fluminense’s service error, followed by an ace from Sabrina. Roni made the bridge to set point and the red and black team closed the set with a double block, at 25/15.

Sabrina makes an ace and expands the score with consecutive points for SESC-Flamengo in the second set

3rd set: Tricolor team reacts and makes a great set, but Flamengo turns it around in the final stretch

Fluminense showed a reaction and opened the set with two points, but the opponents soon tied at 2/2. Serb error from Serbian star Uzelac, followed by a point for Tricolor. Fluminense asked for a challenge and was right, and continued ahead of the red-black team, at 11/8, which seemed to have destabilized in the match. Flamengo started to grow again in the match, with a strong ball from Sabrina, but continued to make some reception errors. Pri Heldes made a start on the opponents’ court and scored 18/13. With two blocks from Juju and a point from Valquíria, Flamengo left everything equal at 18/18, but Sabrina served out. Sabrina sent a hit to the opponent’s court and Roni equalized the score with a precise block. In a final turnaround, with a mistake from the hosts, the visitors closed the set at 25/22.

4th set: Flu starts with the advantage, but Flamengo turns it around and takes the match

The hosts reached the fourth set with the desire to turn things around, and opened up a five-point lead, at 10/5, highlighted by Paracatu’s blocks. Flamengo blocked the ball from Brie and took advantage of Ariane’s attack error. Fluminense pulled the score back again, but Roni scored 12/13, followed by a draw by Helena’s ace. Sabrina made the comeback against the tricolor team and Roni sent two more balls to increase the advantage. Roni tried to escape the block and sent it out, but he corrected it, scoring his twenty-sixth point of the match. Pri Heldes and Paracatu added another, and Uzelac sent a precise counterattack, but Helena sent her best ball of the match and Brie King followed, repeating the feat, leaving Flamengo two points from the decision. Sabrina closed the set with a heavy serve, with 25/20.
