TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS.- The Health Secretary decided this Saturday to extend the measles, rubella and polio vaccination day until the next one 30 of November.
“The decision has been made to extend the VII Vaccination campaign of Follow-up against Measles, Rubella (CVSSR) and Poliomyelitis until 30 November 2022, with the implementation of an emergency plan in each Health Region, with the aim of accelerating vaccination and protecting the population of children from 6 months to at 6 years of age, against these diseases ”, the authorities announced in a statement.
To maintain the elimination of these diseases, it is necessary to vaccinate the 95 percentor more of the target population with an additional dose of both vaccines, in a homogeneous manner, however, until 30 October this percentage is not reached.
“Nationwide, only 79 percent coverage for measles, rubella and mumps vaccine (SRP) and 80 percent for polio vaccine (bVOP), indicating that there are children who have not been vaccinated. during this campaign, which means that there is a risk in the country of cases of polio, measles and rubella ”, say the authorities.

“Parents or guardians of children are reminded that an additional dose of both vaccines is being applied, even if children are already vaccinated, children of 2, 3 and 4 the years are the ones that went to get the least vaccinated, ”Sesal recalls.
“The health ministry continues to work to find these children, but parental support is being asked to go to the nearest health facilities or vaccination sites to receive these vaccines to prevent measles, rubella and polio.”
