Technologue.id, Jakarta – SES announced that two O3b mPOWER satellites were successfully launched into space via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, United States at 16.08 local time on 12 November 2023 (or 4.08 WIB).
With the launch of the fifth and sixth O3b mPOWER satellites, SES has completed the needs of a Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) system to provide high throughput, low latency and flexibility.

Last month, SES also announced it would add two additional satellites built by Boeing, bringing the total number of O3b mPOWER satellites launched to 13 — additional investments already planned in the capital expenditure budget.
The first four O3b mPOWER satellites launched last year have reached orbital position and are undergoing a series of checks; including component system validation tests in space and on land.
In 2023, SES has launched and tested more than 160 O3b mPOWER terminals through the O3b constellation to maximize network service performance in the mobility, telecommunications, government and private sectors.
“With the launch of the fifth and sixth O3b mPOWER satellites which will be operational in the next few months, we are ready to provide the high network connectivity services required by our users,” said Ruy Pinto, CEO of SES.

Apart from that, Ruy added, the company is also confident in the level of network security that is built strongly, so that all users can rely on their services to provide reliable and safe connectivity.
The O3b mPOWER service is expected to be commercially available in the second quarter of 2024.
