As of today, the general insurance market joins “Me Quiero Salir”, which will allow consumers to terminate their insurance contracts early, such as motor vehicle insurance; of unemployment; fraud, home insurance, and species theft insurance.
The Regional Director of SERNAC, MARÍA FRANCISCA ORTIZ OBERG, explained that the objective of this tool is to provide facilities to consumers, especially in markets where “it is simple to contract, but many times it is difficult to get out. Today people need more than ever to be able to terminate contracts that they do not need, do not want or cannot continue to pay. This platform promotes best practices, by making it easier for consumers to terminate contracts, without barriers or difficulties. Therefore, it encourages competition in the market. “
Since last year and until May of this year, SERNAC received more than 21 thousand claims related to the insurance market. 15.7% of them are due to difficulties in completing the contract. That is, more than 3,000 claims.
In this first stage, six companies and brokers voluntarily joined the “Me Quiero Salir” initiative: four insurance companies and two insurance brokers. These are Cencosud Scotiabank Insurance Brokers, Banchile Corredores de Seguros, BNP Paribas Cardif, Consorcio, SURA and HDI.
Once consumers submit a request to some of these companies, the companies must cancel the contract that same day. Subsequently, within a maximum period of 8 days, users will formally receive a response to the request from SERNAC.
However, the “Me Quiero Salir” platform will allow consumers to request the termination of the insurance with any company or broker, since SERNAC will periodically officiate the rest of the companies in the market, which will be obliged to terminate the insurance requested. by users at the time of being notified.
In the event that the companies refuse, SERNAC will take various steps to verify that the decision does not contravene the rights of consumers.
This platform was managed and adapted for the general insurance market, through coordinated work between SERNAC and the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF).
