Limburgers who are seriously overweight and a few other groups have been vaccinated against corona since Saturday. This is also the case at a general practice in Beringe.

People with a BMI (Body Mass Index) higher than 40, people of 63 and 64 years old and people with Down’s syndrome (older than 18) were the first to be vaccinated at the GP today.
General practice Verstraten in Beringe received more than eighty people for the injection with the AstraZeneca vaccine. That vaccine has been assigned by the government to people up to the age of 64. In some countries 65-year-olds are also vaccinated with the vaccine, but not in the Netherlands.
Overweight on ICs
Figures from the heart foundation show that about 78 percent of corona patients in intensive care units (ICUs) are overweight, with a BMI of 25 or more. 34 percent of the corona patients in the ICUs are even seriously overweight (BMI of 30 or more). That share is above average: about 15 percent of adult Dutch people are seriously overweight.

First vaccinated
Monique Bos from Koningslust was the first Limburg citizen with a BMI of over 40 to be vaccinated today. “I am in the risk zone, so I am happy that I got the vaccine. It gives me a little more safety. And of course for my environment. A burden is off my shoulders”.
She experienced the past period as anxious. “You see a lot of images around you in the media. I have been very careful in the past period”.
Second shot
Monique and the others who got the shot today are not finished yet. They have to return for a second injection in eleven weeks. According to GP Verstraten, this is necessary to obtain maximum protection. “If we administer the second injection after eleven weeks, the degree of protection is the highest.”
