A motorcycle ran into the ditch this afternoon. The accident happened on Langangsvegen in Porsgrunn. This is the old E18 near Lannerheia.
The police were notified of the accident at 15.41. This is what the operations manager in the South-East police district, Anne Meyer, says.
No other people involved in the accident have been reported.
Probably happened while overtaking
According to the police task leader on the spot, Terje Lunden, it may appear that the accident occurred in connection with a passing.
– It may appear that a situation has arisen which has caused the motorcyclist to drive out on the left side of the road in his direction of travel, Lunden says.
He confirms that it is a man in his 50s who rode the motorcycle. The man has been flown to Oslo University Hospital.
Eyewitnesses say Telemark newspaper that there was no question of abnormally high speeds.
Anne Meyer in the South-East police district says that the accident group of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration has been summoned.
This group is brought in to find the cause of accidents where there is talk of serious personal injury or death.
The road was closed for a long time at the accident site, but is now open for traffic, according to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
