Seriously drunk man crashed into a wall in Salzburg with a high-powered car: conditional imprisonment and a fine

Five months of conditional imprisonment and an unconditional fine of 2520 euros for grossly negligent bodily harm: This was the not legally binding judgment at the regional court on Monday for an Upper Austrian (25) who on a December night in Salzburg with 1.72 per mille in his blood with a 260- PS-BMW was responsible for an accident in which his passenger was seriously injured.

According to the criminal complaint, the 25-year-old defendant put the SportPlus gear in the Rainerstraße and carried out a so-called kickdown, whereupon the rear broke out and the car crashed into the wall or facade of the local S-Bahn underpass.

Explanation: A kickdown is the energetic depressing of the accelerator pedal until it stops. The automatic transmission immediately shifts to lower gears – at the same time, the engine speed is brought up to maximum output. The engine roars, and the driver and front passenger are pushed into their seats. With kickdown, the maximum engine power is released within one second.
