Seriously! Again, RI’s Near Neighbors Conceded Omicron

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Philippines detected two imported cases of the new variant of the Omicron coronavirus. The Ministry of Health (MOH) said this was the first case reported on Wednesday (15/12/2021).

quote Reuters, two cases of the Omicron variant in the country were detected from 48 samples sequenced on 14 December. In a statement, the MOH said currently the exposed person was being isolated in a quarantine facility.

The Philippines adds to the list of countries that have detected Omicron in the ASEAN region. Previously the two neighbors were Singapore and Malaysia, as well as Thailand. They are not only imported cases, there are also those who report infection through local transmission.

Australia has also confirmed local transmission and infection of Omicron in the community. The first case of omicron infection appeared a school student from Sydney. According to New South Wales (NSW) state authorities, the student has no history of traveling abroad.

Apart from neighboring Indonesia, several countries have also started to report the presence of this variant in their country. In fact, WHO says that this virus has been found in more than 70 countries
