Early on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024, a serious traffic accident occurred in Düsseldorf-Golzheim while fleeing from a police checkpoint. A passenger lost her life, while the driver is suspected of having been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Police check escalates into fatal accident
The police tried to stop a Toyota on Heinrich-Heine-Allee, but the driver ignored the stop signs and fled. After stopping briefly, she suddenly accelerated and escaped via Joseph-Beuys-Ufer in the direction of Cecilienallee. The chase resulted in several red lights being run and ended tragically on Rotterdamer Straße, where the vehicle went off the road and crashed into several trees.
Tragic end and ongoing investigations
The 42-year-old passenger suffered fatal injuries in the accident and died at the scene despite immediate resuscitation attempts. The 30-year-old driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where blood samples were taken for further examination. A breathalyzer test confirmed the suspicion of alcohol consumption. The police immediately secured the evidence of the accident and investigations into the exact circumstances of the accident are still ongoing.
