This Friday morning, traffic was cut off on the RN 88 between Costaros and Pradelles, at the crossroads of the national and the D491, due to a serious accident involving three cars.
The hypothesis of a dangerous overtaking
Before 10 a.m., the driver of a gray BMW, traveling in the Langogne/Le Puy-en-Velay direction, undertook an overtaking, at high speed, at the level of the crossing where the RN88, the D491 and the D88 meet. Without realizing that cars were coming from the opposite direction.
A first vehicle carrying a boat managed to avoid the BMW. But the next driver was not so lucky. The frontal impact was inevitable and was very brutal due to strong kinetics.
When help arrived, the driver of the gray BMW, who was going to Clermont-Ferrand to see a friend, was unconscious. The forties had to be extricated before being helicoptered to the Clermont hospital in a worrying state. His vital prognosis is engaged.
The second victim, who was also driving a BMW car, was conscious but seriously injured. The man in his sixties was evacuated to Émile Roux hospital.
Traffic restored shortly after noon
The cleaning of the roadway ended around noon, making it possible to envisage a return to circulation of the national road.
