Serious problems for the world’s largest airline companies / Article / LSM.lv

Due to the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the world’s largest airline companies have been hit by a deep crisis. Airbus and Boeing have been forced to cut staff and cut production.

Europe’s largest airline, Airbus, has announced that around 15,000 workers will be laid off by mid-next year, with the largest cuts at plants in France and Germany.

The company will encourage voluntary departure and early retirement, but mass redundancies are not ruled out.

Due to closed borders, passenger and freight air transport has fallen by around 40%, creating a deep crisis in the sector.

Meanwhile, Norwegian, which is in financial difficulties due to the coronavirus pandemic, has announced the cancellation of orders for 92 Boeing 737 MAXs and five Boeing 787s.

The company has also filed a lawsuit to seek compensation for losses incurred after the commercial use of the Boeing MAX was suspended. This was due to two plane crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia, which claimed the lives of 346 people.
