MITSELWIER – A motorist crashed head-on into a tree on the Lauwersseewei (N361) near Mitselwier on Monday. The victim was seriously injured as a result of the collision.
The accident occurred at 6:48 am. The police, two ambulances and the fire brigade arrived on the scene. An air ambulance was also called and landed on the roadside.
The victim was taken into an ambulance and rushed to the UMCG in Groningen. This happened accompanied by a police motorcycle. The trauma doctor rode in the ambulance.
The vehicle was severely damaged by the impact. The engine block ended up in a ditch after the collision. The police are investigating the circumstances.
The road was completely closed in both directions while the incident was handled.
