The theft of photovoltaic modules and other solar technologies has increased in Germany over the past year, police have warned. The Saxon Criminal Police Office for the frequent attacks on solar systems.
In the first half of 2021, 27 of these crimes were committed in the area. Last year there were 24. However, in the first six months of this year, agents counted 34 cases of theft. The damage in the first half of the year alone in Saxony exceeded 250,000 euros, reported PV Magazine.
In the past two weeks alone, there have been numerous reports, including the theft of 114 solar modules from a construction site in Arzberg, Germany. For example, around 30,000 euros worth of solar components were also stolen in Nauen, Brandenburg.
Authorities said the thieves were members of organized gangs who used vans to steal solar technology.
Components are often stolen from large commercial rooftops and ground-mounted systems, but thieves are increasingly targeting even the smallest residential systems, police warn.
Recall that these systems are in most cases insured, but it seems that this does not stop the thieves, despite the strong demand for similar panels and inverters.
