New York/Punta Cana – It was supposed to be a relaxed flight to vacation, but instead there was panic on board a United States airliner and even two people were seriously injured.
We are talking about the course of United-Flug UA2122, which took off from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in the US state of New Jersey on Friday (July 28) at 7:17 a.m. (local time) almost as scheduled. The finish should be a good three and a half hours later in Punta Cana (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic (Caribbean).
But nothing came of it (at first): The Boeing 737-900 with the registration N77431 was according to data from the flight radar24.com flight portal off the US east coast, when the machine suddenly and unexpectedly into severe turbulence got. Like the portal specializing in aviation accidents Aviation Herald reported, the plane dropped at least 150 feet.
This turbulence caused some panic on board. Two Flight attendants were seriously injured and at least one passenger was slightly injured. The two pilots therefore decided to make an unscheduled landing at Myrtle Beach Airport (US state of South Carolina), where the plane touched down without further incident around 75 minutes after the turbulence began. After landing, medical personnel came on board immediately and tended to the injured.
The incident was subsequently reported by the US Federal Aviation Administration FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) even classified as an accident. At least there was good news for the passengers: After a delay of almost five hours the flight could be continued shortly before 4 p.m. with a replacement aircraft. Shortly before 6.30 p.m. (local time) the plane landed in Punta Cana – and after the little shock the vacation could finally begin…
