Serious head-on accident in Meråker

SERIOUS: The emergency services are still working at the scene of the accident.

Five people, including children, are now being sent to St. Olav’s hospital after a head-on collision in Meråker.

The police reported the serious accident on the E14 at Meråker in Trøndelag at 16:45. There were five people in the two cars, and all are now described as “injured”. The emergency services are working on the scene.

– One person is evacuated by air ambulance, two by Sar Queen and two by regular ambulance, operations manager Stial Aalberg of the Trøndelag police told VG at 17.27.

All are transported to the trauma unit at St. Olav’s hospital, says Aalberg.

– The child does not appear seriously injured, according to the police.

The road is still closed at the scene.

– The cars are completely damaged, says Aalberg. There is a speed limit of 80 kilometers per hour at the location in question.

– I have no estimate for when the road will reopen. We are now working at the site and carrying out investigations to draw a picture of what has happened, he says.

Initially, it was reported that several people were trapped.

– The fire service is on the scene now and says no one should be trapped. It still looks serious, says Aalberg at 5.05pm.

– The road is completely closed on the spot and there are long queues. Several people are involved, including children, the police say.

The accident site is close to the Swedish border on the E14 and the road is closed between the center of Meråker and Teveldalen.
