Serious car accident in Oslo Opera tunnel – Latest news – NRK

Serious road accident in the Oslo Opera tunnel

Five people were injured Saturday morning when a car traveling in the wrong direction collided with a train in Oslo’s Operatunnel.

Four of the people in the car got out of the vehicle. One person had to be released, all five were taken to Ullevål hospital.

– The extent of damage to the various varies, but it appears to be a very serious accident. The trailer driver is slightly or less physically injured, but obviously he was affected by the accident and is being treated for his health, operations manager Bjørn Gunnar Nysæter told NRK.

The extent of the damage has not been clarified.

– It happened in the eastbound race. We have an overview of the course of events, but we will get a video to get a clear picture of what happened. This stretch has a lot of cameras, Nysæter says.

Police were notified of the incident at 4:30 am. The exit for Mosseveien from the Opera tunnel is closed until further notice.

Crime scene investigations are currently underway on site.

– We have the Norwegian Public Road Administration Accident Analysis Group on site, which assists the police. The Accident Investigation Board was also informed of the incident, Nysæter says.

Police have a pretty clear picture of the cause of the accident after watching video footage from the tunnel.

– It proves that unfortunately the car arrived driving in the opposite direction, that is, in the wrong direction, in the tunnel, says Nysæter.
