Serious Accident on A31 near Thionville: Car on Fire, Multiple Injuries, Traffic Closure

An accident occurred this Sunday, October 8, early in the afternoon, on the A31 near Thionville. A car was on fire near exit 42, between Terville and Veymerange. The highway was closed in both directions between Luxembourg and Metz for almost an hour.

According to the first information collected, a BMW which was traveling towards Luxembourg hit the guardrails before being propelled onto the traffic lanes in the opposite direction. She allegedly hit a car, a Mazda 2 which was also heading towards Luxembourg, before catching fire.

Thirty firefighters from the Fameck, Hagondange, Marange-Silvange, Thionville and Yutz barracks were mobilized, with twelve vehicles. The Samu helicopter landed to allow the seriously injured passenger of the BMW to be evacuated to the Brabois hospital in Nancy. The injured driver was treated by emergency services, as were the driver and passenger of the Mazda 2, who were also injured. All three were taken to Bel-Air hospital in Thionville. The CRS motorway managed the operation and seven kilometers of traffic jams had formed.

At 4:20 p.m., traffic resumed in both directions.
