Significant resources were mobilized by the firefighters at the start of the afternoon after an accident which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. this Saturday, June 10 in front of the town hall of Cléry-Saint-André. The accident left eight injured, according to a latest report communicated by the Loiret prefecture. Three victims are in absolute emergency and five in relative emergency. Among the injured were two children aged 7 and 15. A SAMU helicopter arrived on site in the middle of the afternoon and the injured were evacuated to the CHR in Orléans and the Oréliance health center in Saran for one of them.
What happened ?
It was 1:55 p.m. when the driver of a Clio lost control of his vehicle in front of the town hall. The man had a moment of inattention seeing a procession entering the town hall. It was a wedding, with around sixty guests. According to the first elements communicated by the Loiret prefecture and the Orléans public prosecutor’s office, the man deviated from his trajectory and would not have had time to correct it. He hit the protection posts of the town hall, before mowing down guests present at the end of the procession.
The driver of the vehicle taken into custody
The 48-year-old driver was arrested and immediately taken into police custody. He tested negative for drugs and alcohol. The individual is of Guinean nationality and his residence permit is in order. No evidence at this stage indicates criminal intent according to the public prosecutor of Orléans, Emmanuelle Bochenek-Puren, who went to the site early in the evening.
A medical-psychological emergency unit was deployed in the Cléry-Saint-André community hall to support witnesses to the accident. Around 70 people are supported. “We provide all our support to the victims” testifies Ludivine Raveleau, deputy mayor of Cléry-Saint-André, at the microphone of France Bleu Orléans. The future bride and groom who live in Cléry-Saint-André are not among the injured but they are very shocked.
A call for witnesses launched
The Loiret prefecture and the Orléans public prosecutor’s office have published a press release calling “people who have photographs of the event to make them available to the services for the purposes of investigations, but not to use them elsewhere, in particular on social networks”.
