At the railway crossing on Haagweg in Leiden, someone was hit by a train on Wednesday evening around 8.45 pm. A police spokesman could not say anything about the cause. The train from Utrecht is stationary at the level crossing. Barriers have been stretched across the Haagweg. The passengers were removed from the train and got off on the side of Rijnzichtstraat.
The victim was seriously injured and rushed to hospital. Doctors of the Mobile Medical Team (MMT) that arrived by car also drove to the hospital.
The NS reports that due to the collision, no train traffic is possible between Leiden Central station and Leiden Lammenschans station. This lasts until at least 11:30 PM. Road traffic will also not be able to use the transition for the time being.
