The Egyptian series “Surra Al-Bati'” directed by Khaled Youssef, which is shown during the month of Ramadan, has been attacked and criticized on social media.
The reason for the criticism lies primarily in observations that the pioneers of social networking sites considered historical errors, such as the nature of the clothes and decor of the work, as some clips showed one of the actors wearing modern sports shoes, in addition to the actor who played the role of the leader of the French campaign against Egypt Napoleon Bonaparte, who is the artist Ayman Al-Shui, who seemed tall compared to what was known from Napoleon’s short stature, in addition to the appearance of the soldiers of the French campaign with clear Egyptian features.
For his part, art critic Tariq Al-Shennawi explained that the power of social networking sites is now forcing the makers of the artwork to be scrutinized, and in all dramas we find some errors and details that may be absent from those in charge of them, even the global ones.
Al-Shennawy added, in his interview with “Sky News Arabia”, that:
- The owner of the artwork must ensure that there are “multiple eyes” that review and scrutinize the work, not just the director’s eye, because when many of these errors and details are noticed, there is a distance between the audience and the artwork, and this is not in favor of the work.
- At the present time, in view of the power of social networking sites, everyone has the ability to take a snapshot and focus on it. There are errors that are difficult to notice in the normal context except after stopping the staff, or re-watching the scene more than once.
- The series “Sarah Al-Bati'” was definitely negatively affected by social media pioneers who follow everything closely, and they have weapons that were not available before.
- The negative side of watching social media pioneers of dramas in this way is more than positive, because observing such details gives the viewers the impression of a lack of accuracy in the artwork, and the presence of errors in it, which may create a distance between the screen and the recipient, especially the historical work that is characterized by Accuracy is a big part of his craft.
- In a historical work such as “The Great Secret,” the decoration, clothing, and dialogue language must be appropriate to the event that took place two centuries ago, as the language, dialects, and vocabulary change.
- In the series “Sarah Al-Batea”, the director resorted to the Egyptian colloquial dialect, and this in itself does not represent a problem, but the colloquial must pronounce the time, and not be an absolute colloquial, for the current Egyptian colloquial is not like the colloquial that was pronounced in the nineties of the last century, for example. , but there have been changes in multiple words.
